To get started with MATLAB, you must first be able to locate it on your machine. If you have not yet installed MATLAB, it is available free of charge for UCL students via the software database. Find MATLAB by searching for it and follow the installation instructions provided. MATLAB is compatible for Windows and Mac so make sure you download the correct version from the site.

Once you have downloaded and installed MATLAB, then depending on your operating system, there may be several ways of running it. For example, for Windows machines, a simple search for MATLAB should bring up the software package.

MATLAB works with two different file types: Scripts and Functions. Those will be discussed further when the time comes. In the next section, we will have a look at the MATLAB interface.
