Saving Work

Ctrl + S the universal saving function still applies to CATIA. It is important to save work regularly since CATIA can be prone to crashing.

1

There is an auto-save feature in CATIA, but there is a default time interval between saving which may not be that helpful. If CATIA does crash, it can restore the file up to the last auto save, and you will be prompted with it when CATIA restarts.

2

Every time CATIA crashes, a note will pop up to state the reason of the crash.

3

But if there is no prompt, it means CATIA couldn’t recover it, so your file is lost. So remember to save as you progress with your part design to make sure you don’t lose anything.

Desk Files

If you do not organise your files properly, then you may find that when you open your CATIA product, some of the components will be missing. Here the desk feature is needed to locate the ‘missing file’.

4

By pressing desk, you will have to browse for the CATPart for the component.

Then when it is found, CATIA will return the component back into the assembly.

Save Management

Save management is used when working with products. For example, if you want to save a component (CatPart file) as a new file, you press save as, to have another copy of the part but as a separate file.

9

Also, if you edit the parts in product assembly, then to save the updates, you can use save management. This is useful when working with assemblies, since it allows you to organise the way you save the components and the overall assembly.
